Depot Avenue Water Main Project
May
25, 2018 UPDATE –
Garney Construction and subcontractor crews continued tying customer service
lines over to the newly-installed 12-inch water main along W. Fifth Avenue
between Cooper Street and N. Broadway this week. All paving and restoration has
been completed on Williams Street and the W. Fifth Avenue at Gay Street
intersection, and both areas have reopened to traffic flow. Next week, crews
will begin installation of the 36-inch water main on the section of W. Fifth
Avenue between Cooper Street and N. Broadway. Both the Cooper Street and N.
Broadway intersections will remain open. Work is expected to continue in this
area through mid-June. No work will be performed, and all lanes and roads will
be reopened to normal traffic flow, over the Memorial Day holiday.

May
25, 2018 UPDATE - This past week, Hurst
Excavating subcontractor crews continued restoration work in the off-road
easement along back property lines between Alta Vista Way and Valencia Road
this week. There are no traffic impacts for work in off-road easement areas.
Crews will maintain the road closure on Valencia Road between Noelton Drive and
Alta Vista Way for restoration the week of May 29-June. Driveways will continue
to be accessible. Next week, crews are scheduled to perform excavation work in
the off-road easement between Noelton Drive and Towanda Trail, near the north
end of both roads. Crews will also continue to test manholes in off-road, back
lot easements at the south end of Blows Ferry Road. Paving and
restoration remains scheduled for the south end of Mellen Drive next week.
Temporary lane closures with alternating traffic flow will be used in the
immediate work zone where paving crews are present. No
work will be performed, and all lanes and roads will be reopened to normal
traffic flow, over the Memorial Day holiday.
West Hills Natural Gas Project
May 25, 2018 UPDATE – ZONE 2:
KUB contractor Classic City Mechanical installed service line connections on
Chesterfield Drive this past week. Next week, contractor crews are scheduled to
work on Corteland Drive, and Bennington Drive. ZONE 3: KUB
Underground Construction crews worked in the 600 block of Broome Road this past
week. Next week, crews will move to the 500 block of Broome Road, where they
will implement a series of
daily road closures from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. on the section of Broome Road between Corteland Drive and Chadwick Drive starting Tuesday, May 29, and lasting through
Saturday, June 2, as work is performed on the natural gas distribution system
in the area. The road closures will be limited only to the immediate area
where crews are working, and the entire stretch of Broome Road will not be
affected at the same time. Appropriate signage and
flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control, and local traffic
access will be maintained to area homes. Alternate routes include Chadwick Drive and Corteland Drive. The road will reopen to normal traffic flow
outside of listed work hours. Crews will continue
work on those streets next week. Crews will also continue work in the 8400
block of Corteland Drive and Chadwick Drive next week. No work will be
performed, and all lanes and roads will be reopened to normal traffic flow,
over the Memorial Day holiday.
South Knox Natural Gas Project
May 25, 2018 UPDATE – Contractor Cleary
Construction crews continued work in the off-road areas near Henry Haynes Road
this past week. Next week, crews are scheduled to implement road closures at
124 Henry Haynes Road continuously from 8 a.m. Tuesday, May 29, through 5 p.m.,
Wednesday, May 30, followed by a second round of daily closures from 9 a.m. – 3
p.m. on May 31, and June 4-7. Alternate routes around the closure include
Tipton Station Road, Henry Haynes Road, Babs Road, W. Marine Road, and Chapman
Highway. Appropriate traffic control measures will be in place to alert
motorists of the traffic pattern change. No work will be performed, and all
lanes and roads will be reopened to normal traffic flow, over the Memorial Day
holiday.

May 18, 2018 UPDATE – Contractor Cleary
Construction crews continued work in the off-road areas near Henry Haynes Road.
Next week, crews will focus on the area south of Henry Haynes Road in
preparation for installation of the pipeline across the road in this area. No
road closures are scheduled for next week; however, plans at this time are to
close a short section of Henry Haynes Road May 29-30 to install pipeline under
the roadway. Additional information will be provided to area residents next
week, as this work is finalized. Crews will also work in off-road easements
between Henry Haynes Road and W. Marine Road next week. No work will be
performed, and all lanes and roads will be reopened, over the Memorial Day
holiday.

May 18, 2018 UPDATE – ZONE 2: KUB contractor Classic City
Mechanical installed natural gas main along Corteland Drive and Bennington
Drive this past week. Next week, contractor crews are scheduled to work on
Chesterfield Drive, Corteland Drive, and Bennington Drive. ZONE 3:
KUB Underground Construction crews continued work on Ainsworth Drive, Bathurst
Road, Corteland Drive, and Chadwick Drive. Crews will continue work on those
streets next week. Crews also continue work on Broome Road, between Marlboro
Road and Chadwick Drive, and daily lane closures with flaggers maintaining
alternating traffic flow will remain in effect on this section of roadway
through June 1. No work will be performed, and all lanes and roads will be
reopened, over the Memorial Day holiday.

newly-installed eight-inch water main along Williams Street between W. Fifth
Avenue and Hudson Alley this week. This section of Williams Street will remain
closed through early next week for paving and restoration. Crews also completed
connecting the new eight-inch line to the existing water line at the W. Fifth
Avenue and N. Gay Street intersection. The intersection will remain closed on
Monday, May 21, for paving. Once paving is completed at this location, crews
will reopen the N. Gay Street intersection to traffic. Crews will then close W.
Fifth Avenue between Cooper Street and N. Broadway. Beginning at 3 p.m.,
Monday, May 21, and lasting overnight, contractor crews will close the W. Fifth
Avenue at N. Broadway intersection to complete two eight-inch main connections.
The intersection will remain closed through the end of the week for paving and
restoration. Traffic flow will be shifted to the N. Gay Street intersection
while the N. Broadway intersection is closed. No work will be performed, and
all lanes and roads will be reopened, over the Memorial Day holiday.

11, 2018 UPDATE –
Garney Construction and subcontractor crews worked along the section of
Williams Street between W. Fifth Avenue and Hudson Alley to install an
eight-inch water main this past week. This section of Williams Street will
remain closed through next Friday as service lines are connected to the new
main and final tie-ins are completed. Next week, crews will continue work on
the 36-inch main crossing beneath the W. Fifth Avenue Bridge in the off-road
parking lot easement at the corner of Cooper Street and W. Fifth Avenue. Crews
will also connect sections of 16-inch and 8-inch mains at the W. Fifth Avenue
and Williams Street intersection and the W. Fifth Avenue and N. Gay Street
intersection. Crews working from east to west will implement daily single lane
closures only in the immediate work zone along short sections of W. Fifth
Avenue between N. Broadway and Cooper Street as customer lines are connected to
the 12-inch water main recently installed in this area.

11, 2018 UPDATE –
This past week, Hurst Excavating subcontractor crews worked in the off-road
easement along back property lines between Alta Vista Way and Valencia Road.
Restoration crews are scheduled to work in this area and along a section of
off-road easement near Blows Ferry Road next week. There are no traffic impacts
for work in those areas. Starting next Monday, May 14, and lasting through May
26, crews will close Valencia Road between Noelton Drive and Alta Vista Way for
wastewater main rehabilitation. This section of Valencia Road will remain
closed to through traffic; however, access to driveways will be maintained.
Paving and restoration will continue to work on the south end of Mellen Drive,
and short sections of Scenic Drive, Taliluna Avenue, Cherokee Boulevard, and Kenesaw
Avenue next week. Temporary lane closures with alternating traffic flow will be
used in the immediate work zone where paving crews are present.
(Sequoyah Hills Area) Road Closure – Valencia
Road [May 14 – June 8] – KUB contract crews will close Valencia Road
to through traffic daily from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday – Friday, starting
Monday, May 14, through Friday, June 8, as work is performed on the wastewater
collection system in the area. Local traffic access for residents will be
maintained, and the roadway will be reopened after work hours and on weekends. Appropriate signage and flaggers will be on
site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as
necessary.
West Hills Natural Gas Project
May 11, 2018 UPDATE
– ZONE 2: KUB contractor Classic City Mechanical began
installing natural gas main along Corteland Drive (between Marlboro Road and
Chesterfield Drive) and Chesterfield Drive (between Corteland Drive and 8115
Chesterfield Drive) this past week. Next week, crews will move to the area on
Bennington Drive between Corteland Drive and Chesterfield Drive. ZONE 3:
KUB Underground Construction crews worked on Ainsworth Drive this past week.
Next week, crews will continue work on Ainsworth Drive, Corteland Drive, and
Chadwick Drive. Also, next week, KUB crews will reduce the section of Broome
Road between Marlboro Road and Chadwick Drive to one alternating lane of
traffic during daytime working hours. Flaggers will be present as these daily
lane closures remain in effect from May 14 through June 1. KUB will issue a traffic advisory and social media posts ahead of
this traffic change.

Pipeline installation continues in the off-road areas progressing north from
Tipton Station Road toward Henry Haynes Road. Grading work will also take place
in off-road easements on the south side of Tipton Station Road. No long-term
road closures are scheduled for next week; however, there may be temporary
traffic delays on area roads as trucks with trailers transport large sections
of pipe from the contractor laydown finalized in advance of all remaining road
closures.

4, 2018 UPDATE –
Garney Construction and subcontractor crews continued work to connect sections
of the 36-inch water main in the area beneath the W. Fifth Avenue bridge over
to the private parking lot located at the corner of Cooper Street. Paving work
was not able to be completed on the section of W. Fifth Avenue between N.
Broadway and the N. Gay Street intersection this past week. This section of
roadway will remain closed through May 11 as paving and restoration work is
completed. Beginning next Tuesday, May 8, and lasting through the end of next
week, the contractor will close Williams Street between W. Fifth Avenue and
Hudson Alley to install an eight-inch section of water main.
(North
Knoxville) Williams Street Road Closure [May 7-31] – KUB
contract crews will close a short section of Williams Street between W. Fifth
Avenue and Magnolia Avenue from 7 a.m., Monday, May 7, through Thursday, May 31,
as work is performed on the water distribution system in the area. The
intersection of Magnolia Avenue and Williams Street will remain open. Alternate
routes include W. Fifth Avenue, N. Broadway, N. Central Street, N. Gay Street, and
Magnolia Avenue. Access to local businesses will be maintained, and flaggers
and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control.

pre-construction work this past week to locate existing underground utilities
ahead of digging work on Chesterfield Drive. Starting next week, Classic City
crews will begin installing the natural gas pipeline on Chesterfield Drive. ZONE
3: KUB Underground Construction crews worked on Chadwick Drive,
Marlboro Drive, and Carrington Drive this past week. Work is expected to be
completed on Chadwick Drive and the 900 block of Marlboro Drive next week.
Crews will then move to the 8100 block of Ainsworth Drive toward the end of the
week.
