Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project

August 30, 2019 UPDATE – Construction crews will work in the following areas next week with intermittent road closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:
  • Agawela Avenue between Taliluna Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard
Crews will also work on the following roads with intermittent lane closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
  • Taliluna Avenue between Agawela Avenue and Southgate Road 
  • Kenesaw Avenue between Taliluna Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard
Crews will also work in the following off-road easements with minimal traffic impacts:
  • Easement between Agawela Avenue and Kenesaw Avenue in Sequoyah Village Apartments (Restoration)
  • Easement between Iskagna Drive and Woodland Drive (Restoration)
Closed-circuit Television Inspection – Crews will continue to work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Sequoyah Park – Morgan Construction and their subcontractors continue to rehabilitate the existing wastewater main and manholes in Sequoyah Park. See the attached map showing current work corridors within the park. The park, all entrances and parking areas, and boat ramp remain open during this work. Morgan Construction is also maintaining a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association. Informational banners have been placed in the park entrances/parking areas to provide park visitors with details about the wastewater rehabilitation work. Updates on the progress of work in the park will be posted weekly and as needed on this blog site.

Natural Gas System Work – Crews have resumed natural gas inspection and maintenance work at various locations throughout Sequoyah Hills. This work may require short term traffic impacts in the immediate area where crews are working.

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project

August 30, 2019 Update – Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews will began connecting customer service lines, starting at 5908 E. Sunset Road and working towards the 5500 block. Next week, crews will continue work on E. Sunset Road, and begin potholing to located existing underground utilities on Farragut Drive and progressing east on Holston Hills Road.

Fountain City Natural Gas Project

August 30, 2019 – Contractor Classic City Mechanical will resume work with potholing to locate existing underground utilities and boring in new natural gas main on Grove Drive, from Martha Berry Drive to Rifle Range Road. Crews will also perform potholing on Mynatt Drive. Crews will not work on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day.

Homberg Drive Water Main Replacement

August 30, 2019 – KUB Underground Construction crews are finishing up service line connections, and restoration crews continue with roadway and asphalt repairs. Crews will not work on Monday, September 2, in observance of Labor Day. Plans are in the works to replace the water main along the section of Kingston Pike between Westwood Road and Homberg Drive. Construction, which is scheduled to start in mid-September and last approximately one month, will be performed during overnight hours to minimize traffic impacts. Watch for more details over the next several weeks.

August 23, 2019 UPDATE – Construction crews will work in the following areas next week with intermittent daily road closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:
·         Kenesaw Avenue between Taliluna Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard
·         Navaho Road between Scenic Drive and South Garden Road
·         Agawela Avenue between Taliluna Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard

Crews will also work on the following roads with intermittent lane closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. (NOTE: THESE CLOSURES WILL BE COORDINATED SO THAT THEY WILL NOT BE IN CONFLICT WITH EACH OTHER OR THE WORK ON NAVAHO AND TALILUNA)
·    Taliluna Avenue between Agawela Avenue and Southgate Road 
·    Cherokee Boulevard between Southgate Road and Kenesaw Avenue (westbound lane closed during daytime work hours with traffic flow detoured via Kenesaw Avenue, Taliluna Avenue, and Southgate Road)
-       Eastbound traffic flow on this stretch of Cherokee Boulevard and Sequoyah Greenway will remain open at all times
·    Cherokee Boulevard between Lakeland Drive and Scenic Drive (Eastbound lane closed during daytime work hours with traffic flow detoured via Scenic Drive, Navaho Road, Taliluna Avenue, and Southgate Road)
-       Westbound traffic flow on this stretch of Cherokee Boulevard.  Sequoyah Greenway will remain open at all times, but eastbound traffic flow will be detoured around the work area.

Crews will also work in the following off-road easements with minimal traffic impacts:
·    Easement between Sequoyah Avenue and Taliluna Avenue (Wastewater Rehabilitation)
·    Easement between Agawela Avenue and Kenesaw Avenue in Sequoyah Village Apartments (Wastewater Rehabilitation)
·    Easement between Iskagna Drive and Woodland Drive (Restoration)

(Sequoyah Hills) Cherokee Boulevard Lane Closure [Extended, August 26] – KUB crews will implement a partial closure of a short section of the southbound lane of Cherokee Boulevard between Kenesaw Avenue and Tugaloo Drive from 7 a.m. – 3 p.m., on Monday, August 26, as work is performed on the natural gas distribution system in the area. Southbound traffic will be maintained around the work zone, and northbound traffic will not be impacted. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.

August 23, 2019 Update –Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews finished up boring in new natural gas pipeline between the 5400 and 5500 blocks on Crestwood Drive this week. Next week, the contractor will work on service line tie-ins starting at 5908 E. Sunset Road and progressing toward the 5500 block, tying in sections of natural gas main on Farragut Drive at Holston Hills Drive and Crestwood Drive, and potholing to locate existing underground utilities and boring on Holston Hills Drive from Farragut Drive to Cliffside Lane.

Homberg Drive Water Main Replacement Project

August 16, 2019 – KUB Underground Construction crews have completed the installation of the new water main along the entirety of the Homberg Drive portion of the project. Testing of the new main has been completed and crews are currently connecting remaining customers to the newly-installed main. Customer reconnections will continue through the next two weeks as KUB Customer Support and KUB UGC crews work with customers to plan optimal times to have their individual service(s) reconnected. Temporary paving will continue through this time as KUB’s contract paving crew works westward from Whittaker Dr towards the intersection of Homberg Dr and Kingston Pike.

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project

August 16, 2019 Update –Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews finished up pipeline tie-ins at E. Sunset Drive and Ingelwood Drive. Potholing work to locate existing buried utility lines is underway on Farragut Drive, Crestwood Drive, and Holston Hills Road. Next week, crews will begin boring in new natural gas pipeline on the 5400-5500 blocks of Crestwood Drive, Farragut Drive (from Holston Hills Road to Crestwood Drive), and time-permitting on Holston Hills Road (from Farragut Drive to 5411 Holston Hills Road).

Sequoyah Hills Area

August 12, 2019 - The below wastewater work is not part of the Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project, but will impact the area. 

(Sequoyah Hills) Kenesaw Avenue Road Closure [August 13] – KUB crews will close a short section of Kenesaw Avenue between Cherokee Boulevard and Wester Wood Avenue from 8 a.m.- 4 p.m., on Tuesday, August 13, as work is performed on the wastewater distribution system in the area. Alternate routes include Kenesaw Avenue, Woodland Drive, and Cherokee Boulevard. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.

Homberg Drive Water Main Project

August 9, 2019 – KUB construction crews have installed approximately 850 linear feet of new water main from the area west of S. Mohican Street to Ben Atchley Street. Service reconnections have been completed for customers located on Homberg Drive, east of S. Mohican Street to Whitaker Drive, and for customers located along S. Mohican Street. Next week, KUB crews will continue installing new water main along Homberg Drive from Ben Atchley Street to the intersection of Homberg Drive and Kingston Pike. Current construction will not extend into Kingston Pike at this time. Service reconnections will be planned and constructed west of S. Mohican Street to Kingston Pike over the coming weeks as KUB crews and customer representatives coordinate with customers on an individual basis. Paving crews began to patch excavations along Homberg Drive from Whitaker Drive heading west toward S. Mohican Street. Paving efforts will continue through next week. Detours and scheduled lane/road closures will continue along Homberg Drive (construction) and S. Mohican Street (paving) through the coming weeks.

Concord/Painter Avenue Area Wastewater Project

August 2, 2019 Update –Third Creek Greenway Trail Diversion – Wastewater rehabilitation work has been completed and the Third Creek Greenway trail is open with no diversion. Restoration crews will be working in the area over the next several weeks, but this work will not affect the trail.

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project

August 2, 2019 Update –Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews conducted cleaning and pressure testing on the new main installed on S. Chilhowee Drive. Pending successful testing, crews will fill the pipeline on S. Chilhowee Drive with natural gas next week. Pressure testing will also take place on E. Sunset Drive next week.

Fountain City Natural Gas Project

August 2, 2019 – Contractor Classic City Mechanical installed new natural gas main on Grove Drive, from Martha Berry Drive to Mynatt Road this week. Crews also conducted potholing work on Mynatt Road and Grove Drive. Next week, crews will finish potholing work and being installing the new natural gas main on Grove Drive, starting at Martha Berry Drive and progressing east to Colonial Circle.
