Project Update for N. Central Street

April 21, 2017 N. Central Street Update – This past week, KUB’s contractor Adams and Sons, Inc., shifted traffic control measures and began saw cutting asphalt in preparation for excavation and pipe installation on the section of N. Central Street from Dameron Avenue to Woodland Avenue.

Next week, Adams and Sons, Inc., will continue with water main installation and service line connections in this area. Some work will take place in the Baxter Avenue intersection, but traffic flow will be maintained in all directions with lane shifts. Access to driveways and businesses will also be maintained.

The existing traffic pattern remains in place as the work zone shifts, with both northbound lanes and the northbound bicycle lane closed continuously for the duration of work on this section of N. Central Street. Traffic flow is maintained in both directions, however, with one northbound and one southbound lane shifting to the southbound side of N. Central Street. Southbound bicycle traffic is instructed to merge with vehicle traffic through the work zone. Connecting side street intersections on this section of N. Central Street will remain open unless otherwise indicated by barricades and other traffic control measures. Follow up notices will be issued ahead of any work requiring intersection closures in this work zone.

The contractor is scheduled to return to complete water main tie-in work at the N. Broadway/N. Central Street intersection in early May. Additional information on that work and associated traffic control will be communicated via this blog and traffic advisories. Additionally, KUB will complete work on the natural gas system in the N. Central Street/W. Jackson Avenue intersection early next week under an existing traffic control plan as part of the City of Knoxville’s portion of ongoing Streetscapes work in this area.

All work is weather permitting. Any changes to this schedule will be communicated via this blog and traffic advisories issued to local media outlets.

Vehicle traffic is advised to remain aware of the ongoing presence of workers, equipment, traffic channeling devices, barricades, and signs in this area.
