Sequoyah Hills Area Wastewater Project

June 28, 2019 UPDATE – NOTE: Crews will not work on Thursday, July 4.

Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Rehabilitation – Construction crews will work in the following areas next week with intermittent daily road closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:
·         Cedarhill Road between Scenic Drive and Whitlow Avenue (intermittent road closures as needed for paving and restoration)
·         Kenesaw Avenue between Woodland Drive and Iskagna Drive (intermittent road closures as needed for paving and restoration)
·         Keowee Avenue between Kenesaw Avenue and Talahi Drive

Crews will also work on the following roads with intermittent lane closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:
·         Cherokee Boulevard between Kenesaw Avenue and Southgate Road (westbound lane closed during daytime work hours with traffic flow detoured via Kenesaw Road, Taliluna Avenue, and Southgate Road)
-       Eastbound traffic flow on this stretch of Cherokee Boulevard and Sequoyah Greenway will remain open at all times
·         Kenesaw Avenue between Talahi Drive and Keowee Avenue

Crews will also work in the following off-road easements with no traffic impacts:
·         Back property between Holloway Drive and Whitlow Avenue (restoration)
·         Easement between Scenic Drive and Holloway Drive (wastewater rehabilitation and restoration)
·         Easement between Holloway Drive and Whitlow Avenue (Wastewater rehabilitation and restoration)

Concrete Restoration – This work has been delayed as the concrete subcontractor completes work in other areas. This work will be performed based on contractor availability. Once started, this work will require 24-hour road closures. The 24-hour time frame includes crews setting up forms, pouring and finishing concrete, time for concrete to cure overnight, and removal of forms the following day. Access to driveways will be maintained. Work on these roads will be scheduled so that all roads are not closed at the same time:
·         Windgate Street between Oakhurst Drive and Iskagna Drive
·         Iskagna Drive between Kenesaw Avenue and Woodside Street
·         Kenesaw Avenue between Talahi Drive and Iskagna Drive (This will require a lane   closure due to the repair site being on one side of the road)
·        Talahi Drive between Kenesaw Avenue and Keowee Avenue

Vegetation Management – Vegetation work is complete between Whitlow Avenue and Holloway Drive area.

Closed-circuit Television Inspection – Crews will continue to work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Sequoyah Park – Morgan Construction and their subcontractors continue to rehabilitate the existing wastewater main and manholes in Sequoyah Park. See the attached map showing current work corridors within the park. The park, all entrances and parking areas, and boat ramp remain open during this work. Morgan Construction is also maintaining a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association. Informational banners have been placed in the park entrances/parking areas to provide park visitors with details about the wastewater rehabilitation work. Updates on the progress of work in the park will be posted weekly and as needed on this blog site.

Natural Gas System Work – Natural gas work has been temporarily suspended in Sequoyah Hills as crews have been shifted to work on another area on the system.

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project

June 28, 2019 Update – Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews continued boring in sections of natural gas pipeline through the 5500-block of East Sunset Drive this past week. The boring crew will continue to progress toward the 5800-block of East Sunset Drive next week. Crews will not work on July 4

Fountain City Natural Gas System Project

June 28, 2019 – Contractor crews are scheduled to begin natural gas system main replacements on the following streets in in the Fountain City area early July: Martha Berry Drive, Grove Drive, Mynatt Road, Edonia Drive, Walkup Drive, Grove Park Drive, Gresham Road, Ridgewood Road, and Peyton Place. This work will require lane closures in the immediate areas where crews are working. Construction is scheduled to last in this area through February 2020. Regular updates will be posted as construction progresses.

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project


June 21, 2019 Update – Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews continued boring in sections of natural gas pipeline through the 5400-block of East Sunset Drive this past week. The boring crew will continue to progress toward the 5600-block of East Sunset Drive next week.

This work just west of S. Concord Street will require trail diversions around the construction areas, but the greenway will remain open. All traffic and greenway impacts will be communicated by KUB and the contractor via onsite signage, media advisories, and on social media platforms. See map.

·         Tuesday, June 11 – Easement between Lakeland Drive and Bluff View Road off of Whitlow Avenue. (One lane closed on Whitlow Avenue, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.)
·         Wednesday, June 12 – South Garden Road between Navaho Road and Cherokee Boulevard, and on Navaho road between Chickasaw Road and South Garden Road. One lane closed on both roads with flaggers present to alternate traffic flow.
·         Thursday, June 13 – Kenesaw Avenue between Cherokee Boulevard and Taliluna Avenue. One lane closed on both roads with flaggers present to alternate traffic flow.
·         Friday, June 14 – Short segment in Sequoyah Hills Presbyterian Church parking lot with no traffic impacts.
