Project Update for N. Central Street

February 24, 2017 N. Central Street/Fifth Avenue Update – This past week, KUB’s contractor Adams and Sons, Inc., completed water main installation through the N. Central Street intersection at N. Broadway. Portions of this work were performed at night to expedite the completion of intersection work and minimize the impacts to traffic flow. Paving and roadway restoration work were also completed on this section of N. Central Street.

Next week, Adams and Sons, Inc. will shift the work zone to the section of N. Central Street between N. Broadway and Pearl Place. Both northbound lanes and the northbound bicycle lane will be closed continuously for the duration of work on this section of N. Central Street. Traffic flow will be maintained in both directions, however, with one northbound and one southbound lane shifting to the southbound side of N. Central Street. Southbound bicycle traffic will merge with vehicle traffic through the work zone. Construction in this work zone is expected to last through early April 2017.

Note that connecting side streets intersections in this area will remain open until work is required at those locations. Follow up notices will be issued ahead of any work requiring intersection closures in this work zone.

Vehicle traffic is advised to remain aware of the ongoing presence of workers, equipment, traffic channeling devices, barricades, and signs in this area.

(N. Central Streetscapes Project) N. Central Street Lane Closure [February 24 – early April] – KUB and its contractor will close both northbound lanes and the bicycle lane on N. Central Street between N. Broadway and Pearl Place starting Monday morning, February 27, and lasting through early April 2017. Both northbound lanes and the northbound bicycle lane will be closed continuously for the duration of work on this section of N. Central Street. Project Update for N. Central Street

February 17, 2017 N. Central Street/Fifth Avenue Update – This past week, KUB’s contractor Adams and Sons, Inc., tied in the existing water mains on Third Avenue, Fourth Avenue, and Emory Place to the new main along N. Central Street between Fifth Avenue and the N. Broadway intersection. This work was performed overnight to minimize the impacts to customers and traffic flow. All remaining service lines and hydrants were connected as well. Paving and roadway restoration work was also completed on this section of N. Central Street.

Next week, Adams and Sons, Inc. will shift the work zone to the intersection of N. Central Street at N. Broadway. This work will require the closure of the northbound lanes for approximately one block in each direction on both N. Central Street and N. Broadway through the intersection. Traffic will be maintained through the intersection by merging flow to one northbound and one southbound lane. Northbound traffic on N. Central Street between Third Avenue and N. Broadway will be detoured around the work zone to N. Broadway via Third Avenue and Lamar Street. These lane closures will be in effect continuously from February 21-24. Access to businesses will be maintained during this period.

Project Update for N. Central Street

February 10, 2017 N. Central Street/Fifth Avenue Update – This past week, KUB’s contractor Adams and Sons, Inc., completed customer service line connections and testing of the new water main on the section of N. Central Street between Fifth Avenue and the N. Broadway intersection.

Work will continue in this zone next week as Adams and Sons ties in the existing water mains on Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue to the new main along N. Central Street. This work will require a full closure of both Third Avenue and Fourth Avenue between Lamar Street and N. Central Street starting at 11:30 p.m. Monday night, February 13, and lasting through 7:30 a.m. Tuesday morning, February 14. The tie-in to the new main requiring the closure of Emory Place at N. Central Street is scheduled to start at 11:30 p.m. Tuesday night, February 14, and last through 5:30 a.m. Wednesday morning, February 15. All side street connection work will occur regardless of weather. Roadway asphalt and concrete restoration work will begin on this stretch of N. Central Street next week, following completion of the side street tie-ins.

Project Update for N. Central Street

February 3, 2017 N. Central Street/Fifth Avenue Update – This past week, KUB’s contractor Adams and Sons, Inc., completed installation of the new water main on the section of N. Central Street between Fifth Avenue and the N. Broadway intersection. Next week crews will prepare for testing on the new main, connect customer service lines, and coordinate tie-ins to connect side street lines to the new main.

Since starting in November 2016, Adams and Sons has completed nearly 42 percent of the overall project and installed approximately 2,800 feet of new main, including 12 connecting tie-ins, 65 customer service line connections, and 7 fire hydrants.

Vehicle traffic is advised to remain aware of the ongoing presence of workers, equipment, traffic channeling devices, barricades, and signs in this area. Note that the intersections of Fifth Avenue, Fourth Avenue, Third Avenue, and North Broadway will remain open until work is required in those areas. Work in this section is expected to last through early March. Follow up notices will be issued ahead of any work requiring intersection closures in this work zone.
