May 19, 2017 N. Central Street Update – With the water main installed through the Baxter Avenue intersection, KUB’s contractor Adams and Sons, Inc., began service line connections, fire hydrant/line installs, and completed one side street tie-in at Pearl Place this past week.
Next week, crews will continue with service line connections, fire hydrant/line installs, and side street tie-ins at Hinton Avenue and W. Baxter Avenue. Some work will be performed at night to minimize customer and traffic impacts. Crews will complete fire line tie-ins at 1000 and 1013 N. Central Street from 8 p.m.-midnight on Monday, May 22. The Hinton Avenue tie-in is scheduled for Tuesday, May 23, from 8 p.m.-midnight. The W. Baxter Avenue tie-in work will also be completed overnight, starting at 8 p.m., Thursday, May 25, and lasting through 2 a.m., Friday, May 26.
The overall project includes installation of the new water main up to the N. Central Street/Woodland Avenue intersection, with completion scheduled for early summer 2017 (weather permitting).
Please note that street parking is prohibited on both sides of N. Central Street between Baxter Avenue and Woodland Avenue for the duration of the project.
The overall existing traffic pattern remains in place, with both northbound lanes and the northbound bicycle lane closed continuously for the duration of work on this section of N. Central Street. Traffic flow is maintained in both directions, however, with one northbound and one southbound lane shifting to the southbound side of N. Central Street. Southbound bicycle traffic is instructed to merge with vehicle traffic through the work zone. All turn lanes remain open in the N. Central Street and N. Broadway intersection.
Vehicle traffic is advised to remain aware of the ongoing presence of workers, equipment, traffic channeling devices, barricades, and signs in this area.
