Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project
November 22, 2019 UPDATE – Construction crews will work in the following areas next week
with intermittent road closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:
- Kenesaw
Avenue between Taliluna Avenue and Keowee Avenue
- South Garden
Road between Navaho Road and Cherokee Boulevard
- Woodside Street between Woodland Drive and Iskagna Drive
Crews
will also work in the following off-road easements with minimal traffic
impacts:
- Sequoyah
Apartments between Kenesaw Avenue and Keowee Avenue
- Easements between Lakeland Drive and Taliluna Avenue
Holiday
Schedule – The
contractor will not work November 28-29. Work will resume on Monday, December
2.
Closed-circuit
Television Inspection – Crews will continue to work throughout the Phase 2 area next
week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are
present.
Manhole
Rehabilitation – Crews will work throughout the Phase 2 area next week.
Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.
Sequoyah
Park –
Morgan Construction and their subcontractors continue to rehabilitate the
existing wastewater main and manholes in Sequoyah Park. See the attached map
showing current work corridors within the park. The park, all entrances and
parking areas, and boat ramp remain open during this work. Morgan Construction
is also maintaining a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and
materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville
Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association.
Informational banners have been placed in the park entrances/parking areas to
provide park visitors with details about the wastewater rehabilitation work.
Updates on the progress of work in the park will be posted weekly and as needed
on this blog site.

work at various locations throughout Sequoyah Hills. This work may require

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project
November
22, 2019 – KUB
Underground Construction crews have completed the water main installation on
Old Kingston Pike, Staub Street, and S. Forest Park Boulevard. project. A short
tie-up to the existing water main remains on S Forest Park Blvd. The newly
installed water main on S. Forest Park Boulevard is currently being tested.
Pending successful completion of this testing, crews will begin to tie customer
service lines to the new water main. Crews will to work individually with customers
along S. Forest Park Boulevard, Old Kingston Pike, and Colony Way to schedule
reconnection of water service lines over the coming weeks. Work will be
intermittent next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, with no work on
November 28-29. KUB contract paving crews are actively patching the
excavation areas along Old Kingston Pike and Staub Street. This project
is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this area. To minimize
future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with
wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in early
January. Final paving and restoration will take place at the conclusion of the
wastewater project.

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project
November
15, 2019 – Testing
was completed successfully on the newly installed water main along Old Kingston
Pike this past week and KUB Underground Construction crews have started
connecting customer service lines to the new water main. KUB crews are
working with customers on an individual basis to schedule each service
tie-over, with some work occurring at night and in the early morning hours to
accommodate customers’ needs. Service line work will continue for the
next 1-2 weeks. KUB crews plan to complete the water main installation
along S. Forest Park Boulevard next week with testing and service line connections
to occur in the days and weeks following. Road and lane closures will be
implemented on S. Forest Park Boulevard as needed to facilitate this work.
Access to businesses will be maintained. KUB contract paving crews are actively
patching the excavation areas along Old Kingston Pike and Staub Street.
Water main replacement is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this
area. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water
main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project
TRAFFIC ADVISORY
(Bearden Area) Kingston Pike Lane Closures [Overnight, November
14-15] – KUB
crews will implement lane closures of the eastbound, curbside lanes of the
below sections of Kingston Pike overnight from 9 p.m., Thursday, November 14,
through 6 a.m., Friday, November 15, as work is performed om the water
distribution system in the area:
- Between Gore Road and Westwood Road
- Between Newcomb Avenue and S. Forest Park Boulevard
Both sections will not be closed at the same time. Crews will
first work between Gore Road and Westwood Road before moving to the second
location. One eastbound lane, the center turn lane, and both westbound lanes
will remain open. Access to area businesses will be maintained.

intersection of Staub Street and Midland Avenue. Crews will be testing the
new main over the weekend and will begin to connect customer service lines to
the new main in the coming weeks. On Monday, November 11, KUB crews will
shift the focus of their work to S. Forest Park Boulevard between the
intersection with Old Kingston Pike and the south side of the railroad
bridge. S. Forest Park Boulevard will be closed to thru traffic during
work hours with access to all businesses being maintained. Water main replacement is scheduled to last through early January 2020
in this area. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the
water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area
starting in early January. Final paving and restoration will take place at the
conclusion of the wastewater project.

Restoration – Hot and
dry weather extending into early October has had a major impact on re-seeding
grass and yard/easement restoration efforts. With a return to a more normal
weather pattern, Morgan Construction and its subcontractors have resumed
general clean-up and re-seeding grass and placing straw. Restoration may
take several weeks, but work will continue until all construction areas are
repaired.

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project
November 1, 2019 – KUB Underground Construction continued
progressing with water main installation west along Old Kingston Pike this past
week. Weather limited work hours/days, but crews are scheduled to resume work
next week at 4800 Old Kingston Pike and continue toward the Staub Street intersection. New
water main will then be installed from the intersection of Old Kingston Pike
and Staub Street to the intersection of Staub Street and Midland
Avenue. Once this portion of the project is completed, crews will shift to
S. Forest Park Blvd. Lane and road closures will continue in the immediate work
areas with detour routes providing full access to all commercial and
residential properties in the area. Detours and alternate
routes will be provided to maintain access to all business in the construction
zone. Water main replacement is scheduled to last
through early January 2020 in this area. To minimize future disruptions in this
area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system
upgrades in this same area starting in early January. Final paving and
restoration will take place at the conclusion of the wastewater project.
