Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project


April 12, 2019 UPDATE – Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Rehabilitation Phase 1 – Crews will perform system repairs at the following Phase 1 locations next week: off-road easement repair between Noelton Drive and Towanda Trail, and on a short section of Valencia Road. Manhole rehabilitation crews continue to work at various locations throughout the Phase 1 area. Temporary lane closures may be needed in the immediate area where crews are working.

Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Rehabilitation Phase 2 – Construction crews will continue work on the section of Sequoyah Avenue between Southgate Road and Lakeland Drive the week of April 15. Crews will also begin construction on short sections of W. Nokomis Circle and Iskagna Drive. These roads will be closed to through traffic daily from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. to facilitate construction. Paving and restoration crews will work on Taliluna Avenue next week. Concrete curb restoration will continue on Kenesaw Avenue between Woodland Drive and Iskagna Drive with intermittent daily lane closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. through the end of next week. Access to driveways will be maintained in all areas. Manhole rehabilitation and closed-circuit television inspection crews will work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present. This work will not take place on designated Dogwood Arts Trails.

All planned Phase 2 wastewater system work on Cherokee Boulevard has been postponed until after the Dogwood Arts Garden & Trails events in April.

Sequoyah Park – Morgan Construction and their subcontractors started work to rehabilitate the existing wastewater main and manholes in Sequoyah Park in the western side of the park this past week. The park, all entrances and parking areas, and boat ramp remain open during this work. Morgan Construction is also maintaining a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association. Informational banners have been placed in the park entrances/parking areas to provide park visitors with details about the wastewater rehabilitation work. Updates on the progress of work in the park will be posted weekly and as needed on this blog site.



Contract crews began rehabilitating sections of wastewater pipe and manholes in the western section of Sequoyah Park this past week. 

(Sequoyah Hills Area) W. Nokomis Circle Road Closure [April 15-19] – KUB contract crews will close W. Nokomis Circle between Iskagna Drive and E. Nokomis Circle to through traffic, daily from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., Monday, April 15, through Friday, April 19, as work is performed on the wastewater collection system in the area. Alternate routes include E. Nokomis Circle, Southgate Road, Woodside Street, and Kenesaw Avenue. Access to driveways will be maintained. Appropriate signage, barricades, and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.


(Sequoyah Hills) Sequoyah Hills Area Road Closures [April 15-19] – KUB contract crews will implement the below indicated road closures daily as needed, from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., starting Monday, April 15, through Friday, April 19, as work continues on the wastewater collection system in the area:
  • Sequoyah Avenue between Lakeland Drive and Southgate Road – closed intermittently as needed.
  • Valenica Road between Alta Vista Way – closed intermittently as needed.
  • Taliluna Avenue between Lakeland Drive and Southgate Road – closed intermittently as needed.
Access to area homes will be maintained, and barricades and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.
