South Knox Water & Wastewater Project Update

December 20, 2019 – KUB contract crews will close a section of Davenport Road between Boggs Avenue and Sherrod Road to through traffic continuously from 9 a.m., Monday, December 30, through 3 p.m., Friday, March 27, 2020, as work is performed on both the water distribution and wastewater collection system in the area. The roadway will reopen on weekends and holidays, and local traffic access will be maintained. Alternate routes include Atchley Street, Mimosa Avenue, and Sherrod Road.   

Holston-Chilhowee Area Wastewater Project (Mini-Basin 20A3)

December 20, 2019 – As a follow-up to construction notices that were mailed to area customers recently, the start for this project has been shifted to early- to mid-January 2020. Continue to follow this blog for weekly updates once construction begins.

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project

December 20, 2019 – KUB Underground Construction crews have completed the installation of all new water mains and customer service line connections along Old Kingston Pike, Staub St and S. Forest Park Blvd. No work will be performed in this area until early January 2020. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in January 2020. Affected customers will be notified prior to the start of wastewater construction. Final overall paving and restoration will take place at the conclusion of the wastewater project.

Fountain City Natural Gas Project

December 20, 2019 – Contractor Classic City Mechanical will work in the following areas next week:

• Connecting sections of natural gas mains at:
• Grove Drive and Tansy Lane
• Grove Drive and Belcourt Drive
• Grove Drive and Edonia Drive
• Ridgewood Road and Poplar Place
• Ridgewood Rod and N. Broadway
• Edonia Drive and Ridgewood Road

• 5212, 5213, 5300, 5308, 5312, 5313, 5317, 5400 Green Valley Drive

Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project

December 20, 2019 UPDATE - Construction crews will work in the following areas next week with intermittent road closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:

• Taliluna Avenue between South Garden Road and Lakeland Drive
• Whitlow Avenue between Bluff View Road and Cedarhill Road

Crews will also work in the following off-road easements with minimal traffic impacts:

• Easements between Lakeland Drive and Taliluna Avenue

Holiday Schedule – Contractor crews will not work the week of December 23-27 in the Phase 2 area. Limited work will take place in the work zones identified on the attached map the week of December 30-January 3. Full construction activities will resume the week of January 6. Due to holiday schedules, the next blog update will be posted on January 3, 2020.

Closed-circuit Television Inspection – Crews will continue to work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Manhole Rehabilitation – Crews will work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Sequoyah Park – Morgan Construction and their subcontractors continue to break down the bypass pumping equipment and piping in the park. Cleanup and restoration of excavated areas also continues in the park. See the attached map showing current work corridors within the park. The park, all entrances and parking areas, and boat ramp remain open during this work. Morgan Construction is also maintaining a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association.

Natural Gas System Work – Crews have resumed natural gas inspection and maintenance work at various locations throughout Sequoyah Hills. This work may require short term traffic impacts in the immediate area where crews are working.

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project

December 6, 2019 – KUB Underground Construction crews have completed the installation of all new water mains along Old Kingston Pike, Staub St and S. Forest Park Blvd. Crews completed service connections along S. Forest Park Boulevard this past week, and work will continue on customer service lines and fire hydrant connections along Old Kingston Pike in the coming days. Road closures and lane shifts will continue in this area as crews dig to connect customer service lines to the new main and roadway asphalt patching follows. All construction associated with the water lines is scheduled for completion prior to the upcoming holidays. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in early January. Affected customers will be notified prior to the start of wastewater construction. Final paving and restoration will take place at the conclusion of the wastewater project.

A short tie-up to the existing water main remains on S Forest Park Blvd. The newly installed water main on S. Forest Park Boulevard is currently being tested. Pending successful completion of this testing, crews will begin to tie customer service lines to the new water main. Crews will to work individually with customers along S. Forest Park Boulevard, Old Kingston Pike, and Colony Way to schedule reconnection of water service lines over the coming weeks. Work will be intermittent next week due to the Thanksgiving holiday, with no work on November 28-29. KUB contract paving crews are actively patching the excavation areas along Old Kingston Pike and Staub Street. This project is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this area. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in early January. Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project

November 15, 2019 – Testing was completed successfully on the newly installed water main along Old Kingston Pike this past week and KUB Underground Construction crews have started connecting customer service lines to the new water main. KUB crews are working with customers on an individual basis to schedule each service tie-over, with some work occurring at night and in the early morning hours to accommodate customers’ needs.  Service line work will continue for the next 1-2 weeks. KUB crews plan to complete the water main installation along S. Forest Park Boulevard next week with testing and service line connections to occur in the days and weeks following. Road and lane closures will be implemented on S. Forest Park Boulevard as needed to facilitate this work. Access to businesses will be maintained. KUB contract paving crews are actively patching the excavation areas along Old Kingston Pike and Staub Street.  Water main replacement is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this area. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in early January. Final paving and restoration will take place at the conclusion of the wastewater project.

TRAFFIC ADVISORY 

(Bearden Area) Kingston Pike Lane Closures [Overnight, November 14-15] – KUB crews will implement lane closures of the eastbound, curbside lanes of the below sections of Kingston Pike overnight from 9 p.m., Thursday, November 14, through 6 a.m., Friday, November 15, as work is performed om the water distribution system in the area:

• Between Gore Road and Westwood Road
• Between Newcomb Avenue and S. Forest Park Boulevard

Both sections will not be closed at the same time. Crews will first work between Gore Road and Westwood Road before moving to the second location. One eastbound lane, the center turn lane, and both westbound lanes will remain open. Access to area businesses will be maintained.
