Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project

March 29, 2019 UPDATE – Noelton Drive Water Main Replacement Project – All paving and restoration work has been completed on Noelton Drive, Chippewah Circle, and Dogwood Lane ahead of the 2019 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon event.

Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Rehabilitation Phase 1 – Manhole rehabilitation crews continue to work at various locations throughout the Phase 1 area. Temporary lane closures may be needed in the immediate area where crews are working.

Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Rehabilitation Phase 2 – No construction activity will take place on Cherokee Boulevard, Blows Ferry Road, Alta Vista Way, or Noelton Drive March 30-31 in coordination with the 2019 Covenant Health Knoxville Marathon. Paving and restoration crews will continue work next week on two sections of Kenesaw Avenue, between Woodland Drive and Iskagna Drive, and between Taliluna Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard, and along the section of Sequoyah Avenue between W. Nokomis Circle and Southgate Road. Work on these streets will require intermittent daily lane closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. through the end of next week. Construction crews will work on the section of Taliluna Avenue between Southgate Road and Lakeland Drive. This section of Taliluna Avenue will be closed to through traffic daily between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., April 1-5. Access to driveways will be maintained. Alternate routes include Sequoyah Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard.

(Sequoyah Hills Area) Arrowhead Trail Road Closure [March 29] – KUB contract crews will close Arrowhead Trail between Lyons View Pike and Blows Ferry Road to through traffic from 7 a.m. – 7 p.m., Friday, March 29, as work is performed on the wastewater collection system in the area. Alternate routes include Mellen Avenue, Scenic Drive, and Alta Vista Way. Access to driveways will be maintained. Appropriate signage, barricades, and flaggers will be on site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.

(Sequoyah Hills) Sequoyah Hills Area Road Closures [April 1-5] – KUB contract crews will implement the below indicated road closures, from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily, starting Monday, April 1, through Friday, April 5, as work continues on the wastewater collection system in the area:

  • Sequoyah Avenue between Southgate Road and Agawela Avenue – closed intermittently as needed.
  • Kenesaw Avenue between Taliluna Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard – closed intermittently as needed.
  • Taliluna Avenue between Lakeland Drive and Southgate Road – closed daily. Alternate routes are Sequoyah Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard.

Access to area homes will be maintained, and barricades and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.  

In conjunction with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation, and the Knoxville Track Club, all planned wastewater system work on Cherokee Boulevard has been postponed until after the Knoxville Marathon and Dogwood Arts Trails events.

Sequoyah Park – Morgan Construction is scheduled to begin work to rehabilitate the existing wastewater main and manholes in Sequoyah Park in early April. The park, all parking areas, and boat ramp will remain open during this work. Morgan Construction will maintain a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association. Informational banners will be placed in the park parking areas to provide park visitors with details about the wastewater rehabilitation work. Additionally, both KUB and the City of Knoxville will issue news releases and information on social media about work in the park. Updates on the progress of work in the park will be posted weekly and as needed on this blog site.

Whitlow Park will not be affected by Phase 2 construction.

Appropriate traffic control measures, including signs and barriers, will be in place to assist with traffic flow. Access to driveways will be maintained. All lanes will reopen to normal traffic flow outside of listed work hours and on weekends. The Sequoyah Greenway will not be affected by this work.
