Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Rehabilitation Project Update

KUB NEWS RELEASE

Construction Set to Begin Next Week on Sequoyah Hills Wastewater
Rehabilitation Project
First Phase of Three Phase Project Lasting Through 2020

KUB and its contractor, Hurst Excavating, are scheduled to begin construction activity next Tuesday, February 6, on Phase 1 of a project to rehabilitate five miles of wastewater pipe and manholes in the Sequoyah Hills area.

Excavation will begin in the Scenic Drive area near the Kingston Pike intersection. Hurst crews will progress south on Scenic Drive and Southgate Road. Phase 1 is expected to last approximately one year.

Phases two and three will follow, with work in all areas scheduled for completion by 2020. Final paving and street restoration is projected for fall 2021.

Road, lane, and sidewalk closures will be required throughout this project to facilitate safe access for equipment and workers. KUB will coordinate all closures and detours with the City of Knoxville. Alternate access will be provided for businesses and parking facilities. KUB and Hurst Excavating will also coordinate construction schedules to minimize the impact on special events in the area.

Construction methods will include open-cut replacement, as well as trenchless construction methods. Weekday work hours will be limited to generally daylight hours; however, some night and weekend work may be required to meet project milestone dates.

KUB will post regular updates throughout the project on its website at www.kub.org, and on social media. Additionally, KUB has set up a blog at http://kubmajorprojects.blogspot.com to keep customers informed about project milestones. Customers can call 558-2331 after normal business hours to leave a message that will be followed-up with a call from a KUB representative by the end of the next business day.

KUB, a municipal utility serving Knox and parts of seven adjacent counties, provides reliable electric, gas, water, and wastewater services to more than 457,000 customers.
