South Knox Natural Gas Project Update

KUB NEWS RELEASE

Construction Set to Begin Next Week on South Knox Natural Gas Project

KUB and its contractor, Cleary Construction, are scheduled to begin construction activity next week on a project to install 5,000 feet of natural gas main between Chapman Highway and Tipton Station Road in South Knox County.

The general sequence of construction will involve vegetation clearing and site preparation in the utility right-of-way, by excavation and pipe installation, and final right-of-way restoration and stabilization.

Also as part of this project, contractor Cenergy, LLC, will construct a natural gas gate station at 304 Tipton Station Road. Gate station work is set to begin in May 2018. Final overall completion of this project is scheduled for August 2018.

This project will require temporary road closures on sections of Tipton Station Road, Henry Haynes Road, West Marine Road, and Mountain Grove Drive for natural gas main crossings over the course of the project. KUB will issue traffic advisories and communicate via social media ahead of those road closures.

Construction methods will include open-cut replacement, as well as trenchless construction methods. Weekday work hours will be limited to generally daylight hours; however, some night and weekend work may be required to meet project milestone dates.

KUB will post regular updates throughout the project on its website at www.kub.org, and on social media. Additionally, KUB has set up a blog at http://kubmajorprojects.blogspot.com to keep customers informed about project milestones. Customers can call 558-2331 after normal business hours to leave a message that will be followed-up with a call from a KUB representative by the end of the next business day.

KUB, a municipal utility serving Knox and parts of seven adjacent counties, provides reliable electric, gas, water, and wastewater services to more than 457,000 customers.
