Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project

January 11, 2019 UPDATE – Noelton Drive Water Main Replacement Project – Beginning in mid-January, KUB will upgrade utility service on Noelton Drive, Chippewa Circle, and Dogwood Lane with a project to replace sections of water main. See map for installation areas. Asphalt saw-cutting and other pre-construction activities requiring temporary lane closures on the above-mentioned streets will occur during the week of January 14. One lane of traffic will remain open with flaggers present to maintain traffic flow while this work is performed. Construction will begin the following week requiring road closures in these areas through February 2019 (weather permitting). Access to driveways will be maintained. Flaggers, signs, and other necessary traffic control measures will be in place in association with these closures. Work will not take place on January 21 in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Notices were mailed to customers in the immediate area earlier this week.

Wastewater Rehabilitation Phase 1 – Construction requiring intermittent lane closures between 7 a.m. and 5 p.m. will take place on Alta Vista Way near the Blows Ferry Road intersection. Hurst Excavating and its subcontractors will continue paving and restoration work in the following areas with daily intermittent lane closures, as weather permits, through next week: Towanda Trail, Kingston Park Drive, and in off-road easements near Shawnee Lane and Hiawatha Drive.

(Sequoyah Hills Area) Towanda Trail Road Closure [January 14-18] – KUB contract crews will close Towanda Trail between Kingston Pike and Shawnee Lane from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily, starting Monday, January 14, through Friday, January 18, as work is performed on the wastewater collection system in the area. The road will be closed during work hours only for paving and restoration. Signs will be on site to help with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary. 

(Sequoyah Hills Area) Noelton Drive, Dogwood Lane, and Chippewa Circle Lane Closures [January 14-18] – KUB crews will implement lane closures on Noelton Drive, Dogwood Lane, and Chippewa Circle from 7 a.m. – 5 p.m. daily starting Monday, January 14, through Friday, January 18, as saw-cutting and construction prep work is completed in the roadways ahead of a planned water main replacement project in these areas. Flaggers and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control. Follow-up advisories will be issued prior to the start of construction activities.

South Knox Natural Gas Project

January 11, 2019 UPDATE – Pipeline: As of November 9, all right-of-way restoration was finished in the areas where the new natural gas pipeline was installed.

Gate Station: Enbridge crews have completed commissioning on their portion of the new South Knox natural gas gate station. KUB crews will continue work on KUB-owned assets within the station over the next several weeks leading up to final facility commissioning activities in mid-January 2019.

W. Jackson Avenue Ramps Utility Relocation Project

January 4, 2019 UPDATE – Southern Constructors, Inc., has completed utility upgrades in this area. Final project inspections and close-outs are scheduled through early January 2019 with no anticipated impacts to customers or traffic flow.

South Knox Natural Gas Project

Depot Avenue Area Water Main Project

January 4, 2018 UPDATE – A second round of pressuring testing was completed this week on the entire length of new 36-inch water transmission main installed over the past year between Blackstock Avenue and E. Summit Hill Drive. Remaining work includes a repair in the shoulder area on the south side of Willow Avenue (east of the Patton Street intersection with no impacts to traffic) and connecting the new water transmission line to the existing main at the intersection of Patton Street and E. Summit Hill Drive. As part of this work, Patton Street will remain closed between Drew Avenue and E. Summit Hill Drive, and closure of the westbound curbside lane on E. Summit Hill Drive near the Patton Street intersection. One westbound lane and both eastbound lanes will remain open. Access to local businesses will also be maintained.

(Downtown) E. Summit Hill Drive Lane, Patton Street Road Closure [January 7-9] – KUB contract crews will implement the below traffic control measures from 7 a.m., Monday, January 7, through 5 p.m., Wednesday, January 9, as work is performed on the water distribution system in the area:

• Westbound, curbside lane of E. Summit Hill Drive at the Patton Street intersection closed. One westbound lane and both eastbound lanes will remain open, as will turn access to area businesses.
• Patton Street between Willow Avenue and Campbell Avenue closed. N. Central Street is the alternate route.

Flaggers and signs will be on site to assist with traffic control, and follow-up advisories will be issued as necessary.

Neyland Drive Water Main Project

Project Complete as of January 4, 2019: KUB Underground Construction crews have completed installation of approximately 1,500 feet of new water main along the section of Neyland Drive between UT Gardens and Joan Cronan ahead of schedule. Following the completion of surface repairs this morning, traffic flow on this section of Neyland Drive has been returned to normal as of this afternoon. Additionally, the section of Neyland Greenway between Lake Loudoun Boulevard and Third Creek has re-opened for use. KUB thanks City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the University of Tennessee for their assistance with this project, and its customers for their cooperation. This will be the last update for utility work on this section of Neyland Drive.
