Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project

October 11, 2019 – KUB contractor crews began saw cutting on the eastern end of Old Kingston Pike this past Wednesday, October 9. Saw cutting and construction prep work is expected to conclude early next week. The areas being saw cut include Old Kingston Pike, S. Forest Park Boulevard, and Staub Street. Expect daily lane and road closures in the immediate areas where crews are working during this time. Detours and alternate routes will be provided to maintain access to all business in the construction zone. KUB Underground Construction crews are scheduled to begin construction activity to install the new water main on Wednesday, October 16. Construction will begin at the eastern end of Old Kingston Pike and progress west. Construction zones in the coming weeks will include S. Forest Park Boulevard, and Staub Street. Water main replacement is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this area. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in early January. Final paving and restoration will take place at the conclusion of the wastewater project.

Fountain City Natural Gas Project

October 11, 2019 – Contractor Classic City Mechanical will work in the following areas next week:

• Potholing to locate existing buried utilities and boring in sections of new natural gas main on Grove Park Drive from Edonia Drive to Walkup Drive
• Potholing to locate existing buried utilities and boring in sections of new natural gas main on Walkup Drive from Grove Park Drive to Cub Lane
• Potholing to locate existing buried utilities and boring in sections of new natural gas main on Gresham Road from Ballard Lane to 808 Gresham Road
• Connecting sections of bored-in natural gas main on Grove Drive from Medlin Heights Road to Gresham Road

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project

October 11, 2019 Update –Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews will work in the following areas next week:

• Directional boring to install sections of new natural gas main from the 5600 block of Crestwood Drive to the Holston Hills Road intersection
• Potholing to locate existing buried utility lines between the Green Valley Drive/S. Chilhowee Drive intersection to Shady Dell Trail
• Connect customer service lines to the new natural gas main between 5509 and 5404 Crestwood Drive
• Connect customer service lines to the new natural gas main between 5405 and 5507 Holston Hills Road

Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Project

October 4, 2019 UPDATE – Construction crews will work in the following areas next week with intermittent road closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:

·         Bluff View Road between Southgate Road and Holloway Drive

·         Kenesaw Avenue between Taliluna Avenue and Cherokee Boulevard

Crews will also work in the following off-road easements with minimal traffic impacts:

·         Easement between South Garden Road and Taliluna Avenue

Yard/Easement Restoration – Weather has had a major impact on yard/easement restoration efforts as recent hot and dry weather have combined to prevent planted grass seed from taking root and growing. Next week’s forecast calls for a relief from historically hot temperatures and dry conditions to a more normal weather pattern. Morgan Construction and its subcontractors will have crews deployed across the Phase 2 area performing general clean-up and re-planting grass and placing straw. Restoration may take several weeks, but work will continue until all construction areas are repaired.

Closed-circuit Television Inspection – Crews will continue to work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Manhole Rehabilitation – Crews will work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Sequoyah Park – Morgan Construction and their subcontractors continue to rehabilitate the existing wastewater main and manholes in Sequoyah Park. See the attached map showing current work corridors within the park. The park, all entrances and parking areas, and boat ramp remain open during this work. Morgan Construction is also maintaining a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association. Informational banners have been placed in the park entrances/parking areas to provide park visitors with details about the wastewater rehabilitation work. Updates on the progress of work in the park will be posted weekly and as needed on this blog site.

Natural Gas System Work – Crews have resumed natural gas inspection and maintenance work at various locations throughout Sequoyah Hills. This work may require short term traffic impacts in the immediate area where crews are working.

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project

October 4, 2019 Update –Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews will work in the following areas next week:

·         Directional boring to install sections of new natural gas main, cleaning to remove construction debris from new main, and testing from the 5600 block of Crestwood Drive to the Holston Hills Road intersection

·         Connecting customer service lines to the new natural gas main from 5509 to 5400 Crestwood Drive

·         Finish customer service connections on Sunset Drive

October 4, 2019 – Contractor Classic City Mechanical will work in the following areas next week:

•          Connecting customer service lines to new natural gas main from 1911 to 2108 Martha Berry Drive
•          Potholing to locate existing buried utilities and boring in sections of new natural gas main on Grove Drive from Belcourt Drive to Pruden Drive
•          Potholing to locate existing buried utilities and boring in sections of new natural gas main on Edonia Drive from Grove Drive to Grove Park Drive

Kingston Pike/Homberg Drive Water Main Project

KINGSTON PIKE WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT – October 4, 2019 – KUB Underground made the final customer service line connections to the new main this past week. All construction is now complete, all construction related traffic control measures have been removed, and normal traffic flow has resumed on the section of Kingston Pike between Westwood Road and Homberg Drive.

OLD KINGSTON PIKE WATER MAIN REPLACEMENT – October 4, 2019 – As a continuation of recent water main replacement projects on Homberg Drive and the section of Kingston Pike between Homberg Drive and Westwood Road, KUB Underground Construction crews will be moving to the Old Kingston Pike area next week. Saw-cutting and pre-construction prep activity is schedule to start on Old Kingston Pike, S. Forest Boulevard, and Staub Street on Monday, October 7, and last through the end of the week. Construction will start near the intersection of Kingston Pike and Old Kingston Pike the week of October 12. Temporary lane and/or road closures will be required in the immediate areas where crews are working, but crews will maintain access to driveways and businesses. Water main replacement is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this area. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in early January. Final paving and restoration will take place at the conclusion of the wastewater project.
