SEQUOYAH HILLS WASTEWATER IMPROVEMENT PROJECT

October 25, 2019 UPDATE –

Weekly Update (see attached maps for corresponding work zones):

Sequoyah Hills Wastewater Rehabilitation – Construction crews will work in the following areas next week with intermittent road closures between 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.:

• Bluff View Road between Southgate Road and Holloway Drive

Crews will also work in the following off-road easements with minimal traffic impacts:

• Sequoyah Apartments between Kenesaw Avenue and Keowee Avenue

Yard/Easement Restoration – Hot and dry weather extending into early October has had a major impact on re-seeding grass and yard/easement restoration efforts. With a return to a more normal weather pattern, Morgan Construction and its subcontractors have resumed general clean-up and re-planting grass and placing straw. Restoration may take several weeks, but work will continue until all construction areas are repaired.

Closed-circuit Television Inspection – Crews will continue to work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Manhole Rehabilitation – Crews will work throughout the Phase 2 area next week. Temporary lane closures will be implemented as needed when crews are present.

Sequoyah Park – Morgan Construction and their subcontractors continue to rehabilitate the existing wastewater main and manholes in Sequoyah Park. See the attached map showing current work corridors within the park. The park, all entrances and parking areas, and boat ramp remain open during this work. Morgan Construction is also maintaining a fenced area in the middle parking lot for equipment and materials storage. KUB has coordinated work in the park with City of Knoxville Parks and Recreation and the Kingston Pike Sequoyah Hills Association. Informational banners have been placed in the park entrances/parking areas to provide park visitors with details about the wastewater rehabilitation work. Updates on the progress of work in the park will be posted weekly and as needed on this blog site.

Natural Gas System Work – Crews have resumed natural gas inspection and maintenance work at various locations throughout Sequoyah Hills. This work may require short term traffic impacts in the immediate area where crews are working.

Holston Hills Natural Gas Project

October 18, 2019 Update – Contractor East Tennessee Pipeline crews will work in the following areas next week:

• Potholing to located existing buried utility lines and boring in new sections of natural gas main on Green Valley Drive from S. Chilhowee Drive to Shady Dell Trail
• Potholing to located existing buried utility lines and boring in new sections of natural gas main between 5317 Shady Dell Trail up to Green Valley Drive
• Customer service line connections to the new natural gas main in the following areas:
• 5505-5500 Crestwood Drive
• 5405-5512 Holston Hills Road
• 1502 Cliffside Lane

Fountain City Natural Gas Project

October 18, 2019 – Contractor Classic City Mechanical will work in the following areas next week:

• Connecting sections of bored-in natural gas main on Grove Drive from Tansy Lane to Pruden Drive
• Potholing to located existing buried utility lines and boring in new sections of natural gas main on Edonia Drive between Grove Park Road and Ridgewood Road
• Customer service line connections to the new natural gas main in the following areas:
• 2100-2238 Martha Berry Drive
• Grove Drive from Martha Berry Drive to 2372 Mynatt Road

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project

October 18, 2019 – KUB Underground Construction began installing the new water main on Old Kingston Pike this past Sunday, October 13.  Work started at 4534 Old Kingston Pike and has progressed westward to the intersection of S. Forest Park Boulevard. Water main installation will continue westward on  Old Kingston Pike to the Staub Street intersection next week. Lane and road closures will continue in the immediate work areas with detour routes providing full access to all commercial and residential properties in the area. Detours and alternate routes will be provided to maintain access to all business in the construction zone. Water main replacement is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this area. To minimize future disruptions in this area, KUB will follow the water main project with wastewater collection system upgrades in this same area starting in early January. Final paving and restoration will take place at the conclusion of the wastewater project.

Old Kingston Pike Water Main Project

October 11, 2019 – KUB contractor crews began saw cutting on the eastern end of Old Kingston Pike this past Wednesday, October 9. Saw cutting and construction prep work is expected to conclude early next week. The areas being saw cut include Old Kingston Pike, S. Forest Park Boulevard, and Staub Street. Expect daily lane and road closures in the immediate areas where crews are working during this time. Detours and alternate routes will be provided to maintain access to all business in the construction zone. KUB Underground Construction crews are scheduled to begin construction activity to install the new water main on Wednesday, October 16. Construction will begin at the eastern end of Old Kingston Pike and progress west. Construction zones in the coming weeks will include S. Forest Park Boulevard, and Staub Street. Water main replacement is scheduled to last through early January 2020 in this area.
